FAQ's

How does Ultimate Ears ship?

We ship all orders using UPS Ground shipping. All orders will require a signature at the time of delivery to protect against theft. You will receive a shipping notice once your order has shipped from us, or if you purchased through a dealer, from your dealer.

Please note: Overnight shipping only applies to how long it takes your monitors (earphones) to reach you once they have shipped, it will not expedite the build process, and does not apply to the shipping of FitKits.

Does Ultimate Ears keep my ear impressions or send them back with the order?

We keep all digital impressions on file.  We digitally scan all physical impressions and we keep the originals on file. We do not send back impressions.  After two years, we advise you to get new ear impressions for proper future fit.

Can I use in-ear monitors for everyday listening?

You can always use your stage UE PRo in-ear monitors as high-end headphones. We also have an optional auxiliary cable with a mic so that you can use your UE’s with your phone, as well as a Bluetooth cable for wireless listening.

Can I just use one in-ear monitor?

We do not recommend using just one if you have a stereo pair. You should always use both. UE makes a monitor that is built for acoustic performances and other similar needs. The UE Single Sided Stereo In-Ear may be just what you are looking for.

Can I change my existing faceplate?

You may change your face plates at any time for a fee depending on artwork selection. If you purchased through a dealer they can help you through the process, our team is also ready to help.

Do I need or want the passive ambient feature for my UE Pro Custom In-Ear Monitors?

  • The passive ambient feature allows environmental or outside noise to mix in with the music. Noise Isolation is reduced from the 26dB to 12dB. This feature is designed primarily to aid professional stage musicians transitioning from traditional wedge speakers to in-ear monitors. Once an artist becomes comfortable with In–Ear Monitors, the ambient port is sealed. Our experience is less than 5% of our artists use this featur

Should I go to a dealer for my Pro fit?

  • You can purchase from either our site or one of our Authorized UE Pro Dealers. Our dealers are experts and have demos so you can try before you buy, and get some of your more specific questions answered face to face.
  • Some of our dealers have 3D scanners to take your impressions. Other dealers partner with audiologists to make the process of getting your traditional impressions smoother.

Can I just add a custom fit tip to the universal in-ears that I’m currently using instead of buying a custom IEM?”

  • Adding a custom fit tip will alter the sound. When you change the effective canal length, you change the sound signature of any universal fit IEM.
  • Sound signatures are created by the combination of multiple factors including the type and configuration of the balanced armature, the filters and dampeners used, and the tube length from the armature to the end of the sound bore. When you replace the silicone or foam tips with a custom fit tip, you are essentially changing the distance that the sound travels and throw off the entire tuning. Universal IEM’s serve their own purpose without needing to be converted into customs.
  • They are great to have on hand for back-ups or in situations when multiple guest artists will be sharing the stage. But if you are seriously considering making the transition into personal monitoring systems, invest in a set of custom in-ear monitors.

Is there a minimum age requirement for UE Pro IEMs?

  • No, but generally we do not recommend them for children under the age of 13. The monitors will protect the ears from loud noises at any age however, children are still developing and would need to be checked for fit regularly. Please consult an audiologist for more information.
